As a Business Analyst, your core abilities will be based on finding new and exciting ways to improve the business. This will be done through carrying out workshops understanding business and individual requirements, and turning them into real life project actions taking things where they need to go! You will need to be able to show through your previous work that you have the attitude and commitment that will lead to continued success. Experience of dealing with a multitude of stakeholders from customers and support staff right the way through to senior management and board level, you must be able to present findings clearly and accurately.
Gathering requirements and creating specs to be used across the business will be a core area of the role. You may be liaising between multiple teams within the business and bringing all their individual expertise together, as well as making sure that those you are project managing remain on task and to the deadlines agreed. Working with the tech team, you’ll be organising any system improvements, on top of managing testing programs.

To succeed in a business analysis career, you should be a strong, clear communicator with technical writing skills and a good understanding of business development, new and modern techniques.
What qualifications does it take?
You do not necessarily need a degree to start your career as a business analyst. However, it is recommended to have some qualifications specific to the industry, such as a qualification in project management, service improvement, project governance. specific Business Analyst qualifications would see you starting with a Business Analyst Foundation, Business Change Foundation or Commercial Awareness Foundation, leading on to Practitioner.
Once in your role, it’s common for Business Analysts to become certified and work towards BCS Advanced International Diploma in Business Analysis.
