With over 20 years of experience, April shares her journey of helping businesses that need strategic marketing expertise and gives practical advice for scale-ups on achieving focused, results-driven marketing success.
Can you please introduce yourself and your journey to becoming a Fractional Leader?
I spent 18 years as Head of Marketing for a tech company before moving to a large corporate. In 2021, I became a Fractional Marketing Freelancer – bringing senior marketing expertise to businesses that need strategic direction but aren’t ready for a full-time hire. I work as part of your team for set days each week
Now, I love working with businesses that make a positive impact. My approach keeps it simple – create a clear plan, then make it happen. Years of marketing experience help me spot what works and turn it into growth.
Let’s talk impact, what achievements are you proud of the most?
I find real joy in helping businesses grow. From engineering firms creating life-changing products to startups improving social housing – I help great companies tell their story better.
I’m proud of growing a membership organisation’s presence through clear marketing. Taking complex websites and turning them into lead-generating engines. Helping businesses replace scattered marketing with focused plans that work.
Marketing can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. My 23 years of experience means I know how to bring everything together – your website, content, social media, emails, CRM and data – in a way that makes sense and gets results.
Based on your work with start-ups and scale-ups, do you have any pieces of wisdom you could share with businesses in scale-up mode?
Start with the basics – what do you want to achieve? Your goals will guide everything else, from your website content to your social media.
Think of your marketing plan as your roadmap. Write down where you want to go and how you’ll get there. Simple, focused actions beat complicated plans every time.
Keep checking what works and adjust as needed. But remember – stay true to your goals and keep moving forward.
