Infrastructure Support jobs and careers

Infrastructure Support Engineers are responsible for building and maintaining the fabric on which all other IT systems and services are built. This infrastructure extends to structured cabling, internet connections, storage area networks and virtualisation platform which form the base for corporate IT systems. Most importantly, that person is one of the “go to” people in IT that make the company what it is and enables everyone else to work.

Why consider a career as an Infrastructure Support professional?

Infrastructure Support Engineers are able to progress to more specialist technical roles such as Solution Architects, responsible for designing new implementation projects. Roles are challenging and require problem-solving, resourcefulness and analysis; all hugely valuable skills key to a successful career in IT.

eCommerce Platform Engineering is essentially a software development role so you will be expected to be an expert programmer. eCommerce platforms are typically high traffic/high transaction & high profile. If a busy platform goes down the costs to a business can run into the millions. As such, eCommerce Platform Engineers need to be able to respond quickly to challenges and be good at solving problems under pressure.

Specialising in one of the commercially available systems would suit engineers that are interested in learning all there is to know about one platform. Even if you are more of a generalist eCommerce Platform Engineer – an interest in the full process of selling products online is highly advantageous.
