I am looking for a Director of Engineering for an innovative biotechnology company based close to Lisbon, Portugal, focused on developing carbon-negative materials for the construction industry using cellulosic waste and fungi-based binders.
 
What you’ll be doing?
 
We are looking for a highly skilled Director of Engineering with a strong background in Biotechnology and Production Engineering to lead the scaling and optimization of our manufacturing processes. In this role, you’ll focus on process engineering and design, ensuring efficient production flow while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Responsibilities include designing and scaling bioprocesses, overseeing equipment installation and commissioning, training teams on operational excellence, and continuously optimizing production processes. You will collaborate closely with management and operators, lead the technological strategy, and drive continuous improvement through data analysis, problem-solving, and proactive corrective actions.
 
What experience you’ll need?
 
As the Director of Engineering you need to have at least 5 years of experience in bioprocess engineering, fermentation, or similar manufacturing environments. You will need to have expertise in scaling production from pilot to full-scale, with hands-on and analytical technical skills in fermentation and bioprocesses. You should have experience in designing and scaling processing equipment, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and be knowledgeable in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
