This is an opportunity to join a small but growing start-up working on a mission to create sustainable, ethical and scalable meat-alternatives. With a unique farmer-focused approach and pioneering scientific technique this is a unique company right at the initial phase. The Principal Scientist will be a key driver of scientific and technical strategy, leading the development and optimization of a cultivated meat platform with their knowledge of cell culture, synthetic biology and stem cells.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Scientific Leadership: Guide the scientific efforts, including managing resources, people, and the structure of the scientific organization. Also be heavily involved in selecting and hiring further staff to complete scientific team.
  • Strategy Development:  Develop the scientific development path ensuring the scientific efforts harmonize with other company teams. Anticipate and overcome potential obstacles while meeting timeline and budget constraints.
  • Innovation & Research: Use scientific background and knowledge to improve scientific processes and increase efficiency, improving current products and producing new ones.  
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product development, regulatory, and business teams to make ensure scientific advancements fit with big company picture and that new product ideas are scientifically, commercially, and economically sound.
  • Mentorship & Development: Actively mentoring junior colleagues, help them develop and take on more responsibilities.
  • Grant Writing & Fundraising Support: Contribute to grant writing efforts and support fundraising activities by providing scientific insights and developing technical presentations.
  • External Partnerships: Identify and establish strategic partnerships with academic institutions, industry leaders, and suppliers to enhance the company’s research capabilities and stay at the forefront of technological advancements.

What experience you will need to apply:

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Significant experience within postdoctoral or industry in cell culture, synthetic biology, stem cell biology, with a focus on cultivated meat.
  • Proven track record of driving successful R&D projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about cultivated meat and its potential future impact.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to put ideas into actions and see them through to the end.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or partnership development is a plus.
