True Diversity feat. Starting the Conversations

Introducing Danny Walker-Drake, a diversity, equity and inclusion champion for mental health and an IPS employment specialist. Danny created Starting The Conversations to facilitate the conversations between colleagues and the business surrounding mental health awareness and the LGBTQ+ topics. He currently volunteers in person in and around Bristol and delivers virtual sessions nationally

Here, Danny discusses the importance of diversity and inclusion, why it’s crucial for fostering open discussions, and how businesses can get involved to create a more positive environment.


What’s the purpose and mission of your initiative/ programme/ organisation?

To challenge public stigma on mental health and for a better understanding of LGBTQ+ topics


What’s the need for Diversity and Inclusion, what’s your take – why is it so important?

I believe the importance is needed so people and businesses are able to demonstrate a more open forum for discussion, to understand each protected characteristic and truly breakdown the barriers for a positive environment.


How can businesses and potential employers get involved with your initiative/ programme/ organisation?

Using my lived experience on how things have been, are going and can be going forward. Using my knowledge to educate and bring together their work force with a much better understanding of particular topics.
